Ginger is referred to as the universal medicine in ancient Ayurvedic medical texts (Charaka Samhita) dating from as early as the 4th century BCE. Confucius wrote about ginger in the 5th century BC and Pythagoras born in Greece in 569 BC described it as a digestive tonic. Today ginger is widely used as a botanical of choice for nausea, upset stomach, colds & flus, and internal Cold. It warms and stimulates circulation and digestion and is gentle enough for the elderly and children. Ginger is a potent anti inflammatory agent that can be helpful to reduce joint and muscle pain both internally and topically. It is a harmonizer in herbal formulas and acts as a synergist to move other herbs efficiently through the blood.
